For the burgers:
1kg lean beef mince (5% fat or less)
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tbsp dried oregano
2 onions, grated
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Low-calorie cooking spray
For the chips:
800g floury potatoes, such as Maris Piper or King Edward, cut into chips
For the burger sauce:
2 tbsp tomato purée
80g fat-free natural yogurt
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
¼ tsp garlic granules
For the topping:
4 reduced-fat cheese slices
2 little gem lettuces, 4 leaves left whole, the rest roughly chopped
2 beef tomatoes, 1 sliced, 1 chopped
2 gherkins, sliced lengthways
1 Preheat your oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas 6. Using your hands, mix together the mince, eggs, oregano, onions, garlic and Worcestershire sauce until well combined, and season. Spray a round, 20cm, loose-bottomed (not spring form), non-stick cake tin with low-calorie cooking spray and pack the mince mixture into it, flattening the top.
2 Spread the chips on a large, non-stick baking tray in a single layer. Spray with low-calorie cooking spray and season. Cook the burger and chips in the oven for 30 minutes.
3 Turn the chips. Carefully remove the burger from the cake tin, pouring off some of the liquid first, then slide it onto a non-stick baking tray. Pat off any remaining liquid with kitchen paper and spray with low-calorie cooking spray. Increase the oven temperature to 220°C/fan 200°C/gas 7. Return the burger to the oven above the chips, and cook the burger and chips for a final 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, to make the sauce, mix together all the ingredients and season to taste.
4 Remove the burger and chips from the oven. Evenly place the cheese slices over the burger, then top with the whole lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, some sliced gherkins and freshly ground black pepper. Cut the burger into 4 equal wedges and serve 1 wedge per person with the chips, chopped lettuce and tomato, remaining gherkins, and burger sauce on the side.
