At 38, Sarah Alexander from Diss, Norfolk was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and from then on she knew things had to change. Over the course of 13 months, she lost an incredible 9st 5lb*.
“When I joined Slimming World, I could barely walk to the shops without getting out of breath. I wouldn’t go clothes shopping, and found it impossible to buy a bra that fitted – even a 40L wasn’t big enough. And I wouldn’t look in full-length mirrors.” she shared.
But when the pounds started to drop, and so fast at that, her outfit sizes started to change too. She’s prouder to show off some skin in skirts and dresses and she loves shopping for beautifully-designed bras.
“The day I got to target was the happiest of my life. On top of being slimmer than I’d ever dreamed possible, my doctor confirmed that I no longer had Type 2 diabetes symptoms. I shed quite a few tears of delight.”
She’s never felt so wonderful both physically and emotionally. She even joined and completed a 10-kilometer charity race. But then she developed osteoarthritis in her knees and had to stop running. She worried that because of that she might gain back those weights that she’s lost. She never gave up though and carried on with Food Optimising. She did not give up being active either, she started walking everywhere that on some days her reach counted 6-7 miles. The weight just kept on dropping so she lowered her target even more.
“The thing I love about Slimming World is that I can live life to the full and still feel in control. In fact, when I got back off a recent holiday I wasn’t even worried about my small gain. I got straight back on plan and started walking again – I was back at target within a week! Slimming World really is the best!”

When I’m out and about I keep a Nakd Banana Bread bar in my handbag for an easy, filling snack between meals – they’re 4½ Syns a bar.
For every half stone I lost, I treated myself to a CD, and for each stone I bought myself a beautiful bead to go on a necklace. I wear it every day.
Mum and I booked a holiday in Dalyan, Turkey, to celebrate me getting to target, and enjoyed it so much we’re going to go away together more often. I sold all my old clothes (which went up to size 32) to fund the trip – I’m never going to need those again.
I took up lots of exercise – running, walking and aqua aerobics – and soon got all my Body Magic awards! I also bought myself a fitness ball so I could tone up at home.
